How To Eat Healthy at Work and While Traveling

Tomorrow I am getting up for a long day at work, and then I am traveling on a train for 5 hours, from Chicago to Detroit. I will wake up at 5:25am and will get to Michigan at 1am. Needless to say: LONG DAY.

How will I stay healthy, focused and energized for this long day?

In the video below I show you what I will be eating over the course of the day, and why it makes sense (nutritionally) as the PERFECT FUEL for the day I will be going through:

I will also be drinking lots of water, as well as mostly likely a fair share of organic green tea. (by fair share I mean, probably about a liter or more over the course of the day!).

Will definitely be carrying a bag of raw, sprouted, dehydrated almonds with me, too (forgot to mention that – I love the ones by “Living Intentions“, they are an awesome, healthy snack!).

Enjoy!!!

Try It Raw is a legit raw food kitchen, serving raw living foods, smoothies, detox juice and raw confectionaries in the heart of Birmingham, Michigan (outside of Detroit). (They even have Fine & Raw chocolate!)

They have legit organic offerings made to order, fresh and daily.

I got a green juice (low-glycemic, detox juice with cucumber, celery, dark leafy greens, ginger and lemon)… as well as a raw pizza.20130801-112909.jpg

I’m not kidding when I say the raw pizza blew me out of the water. It was the best I’ve ever had. Seriously. :)

Here’s some raw pizza #FoodPorn for you. ;)

Tiny Empire, Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York

I like this place. It’s a stylish, clean juice bar, right in the heart of everything, near Bedford Ave, in Williamsburg, New York City. It features and clean and organized work space where employees make the smoothies and ring people up (on iPads).

The juices are original (I got one green juice with mint and pear!) and many feature deep dark green color.

I also liked the raw food selection. I got two juices and a raw tiramisu (which was phenomenal, what a breakfast!). They had salads and other savory stuff, too.20130505-112556.jpg20130505-112812.jpg

There is a really awesome fridge and a nice homemade dehydrated raw food section with items like kale chips and handmade granola (rawnola!).

There’s even a cool wall of self-watering plants, and the whole space just feels clean and “green”.

There is a small bench to sit at Tiny Empire.. But, the space seems to be designed (and the food packaging seems to point) to encourage customers to take their juices, smoothies, and raw food to-go.

Vegan Health-Promoting Breakfast

Do you remember Peaches & Cream oatmeal with brown sugar?…
Well, I’ve updated the recipe – raw vegan style – to be health-promoting!20130404-123552.jpg
I blended frozen organic peaches with organic almond milk and four Brazil nuts.
I mix this “peach cream” into raw organic oat bran (higher in fiber and protein than oatmeal).
I seasoned with organic coconut sugar (lower-glycemic than cane sugar).
I seasoned with cinnamon and nutmeg (antioxidants) and garnished with edible flowers.

I love adding edible flower whenever I can. I feel they add the reminder of the ephemeral nature of human life. Hopefully that reminder can prompt us to appreciate the Life we are living.
