The ingredients within Dave’s Killer Bread vary from one product to the next. DKB, as it’s referred to, has expanded to the point that it makes multiple varieties, plus bagels, muffins, and more.
However, you’ll only usually see a few items from their extensive range in the bakery section of a nationwide supermarket due to space limitations.
Organic wheat flour and wheat gluten are two of the primary ingredients found in Dave’s Killer Bread. Some loaves of bread may use organic rolled oats or organic yellow cornmeal too.
What should be noted is that virtually all, if not all their bread products make use of organic wheat gluten. Therefore, for people who are gluten intolerant, this won’t be an answer for you.
Are The Ingredients In Daves Killer Bread Vegan?
Using the 21 Whole Grains bread product from the DKB range as an example, it uses organic whole wheat flour and cracked whole wheat, organic sugar cane, organic wheat gluten, and even a little organic acerola cherry powder too.
Low in calories, a single slice of their 21 Whole Grains bread is just 110 calories, so a sandwich is only 220 calories before adding your chosen filling.
There are also 5 grams of fiber in each slice as well, plus 5 grams of protein for good measure.
Are All Products From Daves Killer Bread Vegan?
Whatever bread you select across the entire bread range, it’ll always be vegan.
If it’s sporting the DKB logo, it’s vegan and uses non-GMO ingredients too. Likely, it’ll also be organically produced too, so look out for the USDA logo on the packaging too.
There are a couple of exceptions with non-bread products made by DKB.
They also produce several snack bars that are great to store in a backpack before heading out on a trail walk. These do contain honey, which is something that vegans avoid.
Because of this, DKB confirms they don’t qualify as vegan. Their snacks include the awesome-sounding Oat-Rageous Honey Almond, Cocoa Brownie Mix, Double Chocolate Chunk, and Blueberry Almond Butter.
This brings up an interesting point.
DKB makes bread, buns, bagels, and English Muffins too. However, none of these have nuts in them. This is despite the almonds in their snacks, so clearly the snack bars are produced elsewhere.
Their bread factory has no nut contamination, which is a relief for people with allergies.
Other Vegan Bread Brands
There are a growing number of vegan bread brands available, depending on the local market or whether you’re buying online.
Food for Life Ezekiel – Flourless bread made from sprouted wheat, lentils, barley, and soy. Less sodium than usually found in vegan bread, non-GMO, and high in protein too.
Mighty Manna – With both sprouted grain and sourdough options, Mighty Manna has Cinnamon Date and Carrot Raisin bread to whet your appetite. Flour-free, no yeast or oil is added either.
Rudi’s Rocky Mountain Bakery – This purveyor of buns, bagels, and loaves of bread does fit into some vegan baskets. Not all their bread is vegan. Some do use gluten, so people who need gluten-free must select more carefully (their gluten-free bread is not vegan).
